Julian Dineen

Head of Picture Department & Auctioneer

Julian is Head of Bellmans' Picture Department. He specialises in works from the first half of the 20th Century, but has a diverse knowledge of paintings, drawings and prints ranging from Old Masters to Contemporary Art, by artists from across the world.

He began his career in 2010, when he worked for an Italian Old Master Paintings Dealer in Mayfair, before moving to Bonhams in Winchester in 2011 as a general valuer with a special focus on paintings, sourcing art and antiques for the London and Oxford salerooms. In 2016 he joined Bellmans in Winchester as a picture specialist and jointly ran the saleroom before his appointment as Head of the Department in Sussex in 2020.

Julian studied Philosophy and Theology at the University of Exeter. Having decided to pursue a career in the art world, he then studied for a Masters in Art History at St Andrews. In his free time, he enjoys hiking.

Career Highlight: coming across a 1949 Ferrari Tipo 166 Inter Coupe on a valuation day in Bournemouth, which went on to sell for £500,000.
