Works of Art | Designer lighting by Christian Liaigre

Bellmans is delighted to offer a pair of Amande floor lamps from acclaimed French minimalist designer, Christian Liaigre (1943 – 2020).

These distinguishable lamps are made of patinated bronze with aquarelle paper lampshades creating an elegant almond shaped centre with the black patina created from techniques dating back to the 18th century by experienced Masters of Arts. The slender lights are known to be inspired by the modernist Swiss sculptor, Alberto Giacometti, whose works were highly regarded by Liaigre.

Liaigre trained initially as a painter at the Paris Academy of Fine and Decorative Arts and teaching at the Academy Charpentier. After opening his own studio in France, he focused on interior architecture and furniture design, creating his own style that was both minimal and traditional, and with a strong emphasis on exquisite quality and beautiful materials.

Liaigre went on to work on many projects, injecting his atonal and simple designs into loft conversions and New York hotels of the 1990’s as well as private residences for design icons such as Valentino, Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfield amongst many others. The brand is still considered today to be one of the finest in French luxury furniture with each piece seen as a work of art in itself.

The pair of Amande floor lamps will be offered for auction within Bellmans' Works of Art auction, 18 January 2023, from 10am.
