Chalkie Davies 1955

Chalkie Davies was born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1955, he became a prominent photographer during the mid 70s for NME photographing bands like The Clash and The Sex Pistols, as well as rock musicians such as Elvis Costello and Peter Townshend amongst others. Some of these stars even used his images for their album covers.

Chalkie moved to America in the 80s but packed all of his work for The NME and The Face magazine into a vault leaving it for decades and to see if it would have any cultural relevance when he returned.

The vault was opened and Chalkie had painstaking processed and catalogued over 40,000 negatives, selecting and restoring and printing images which were on shown at National Museum Cardiff in 2015

In 2014 NME presented an award to him for his outstanding contribution to music photography.
