Bellmans August Auction 2020: The Richard Alsager Collection
The Auction
As part of Bellmans August Interiors auctions, we will offer a collection of Chinese Exports, formerly in the collection of Surrey based Captain Richard Alsager, a Commander in the Naval Service of The East India Company.
The collection is being offered for sale by the great-great grandson of Captain Alsager’s nephew.
Highlights include:
A pair of Regency Chinese export black lacquer chinoiserie cabinets on stands.

A large and impressive Chinese famille-rose twin-handled vase, 19th Century.
Estimate £1,500-2,500.
Eight Chinese wallpaper panels, early 19th Century.
Estimate £4,000-6,000.
Captain Richard Alsager brought these Chinese Export pieces to his home in Surrey, around 1830. They came into his possession through his voyages around the globe as a Commander in the Maritime Service, East India Company. Nine of the fifteen voyages he undertook for the company were to China.
After his retirement from sailing the high seas, Alsager was twice elected M.P for East Surrey before his untimely death in 1841. He had no children.
