With twenty five years working in the business as a valuer and writer, from Scotland down through the Midlands, East Anglia and now Sussex, Silas started as a porter in the Gateshead saleroom of Phillips Auctioneers in 1992, after receiving an M.A in Art and Architecture History at Cambridge University.
Over the next twenty years, Silas worked as a general valuer for Bonhams and Phillips, as well as antiques editor for Judith Miller of Miller¹s Antiques & Collectables. Silas now manages the Bellmans valuations department and specialises in Probate (Inheritance Tax) and Insurance appraisals.
When not at Bellmans Silas enjoys great food, a good cricket match and, naturally, poking around museums and antique shops.
Most Memorable Moment: discovering a horde of old master pictures in a locked secret room in a house in Yorkshire - which subsequently went on to sell for over a million pounds.
Wishful Find: The Lost Amber Room formerly in the Catherine Palace near Saint Petersburg.
