Sir Peter Blake’s ‘Hound Dog’ Gromit Leads Bellmans’ Modern & Contemporary Art Auction

We are delighted to announce that a unique and much-loved work by Sir Peter Blake, Hound Dog (Gromit, Nothing but a Hound-Dog), will be offered as Lot 1004 in the upcoming Modern & Contemporary Art Auction on Wednesday, 19 November 2025.

This one-off, painted fibreglass sculpture (approximately 143cm high) was created for the acclaimed Gromit Unleashed public art trail in 2013 — a groundbreaking charity project led by Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal in partnership with Aardman Animations. The initiative saw 80 giant, artist-decorated sculptures of Gromit placed throughout Bristol and the surrounding area between July and September 2013, captivating the public and inspiring a new cultural phenomenon affectionately dubbed “Gromiting.”

Sir Peter Blake’s Hound Dog was displayed at Arnolfini Arts, Bristol’s International Centre for Contemporary Arts, and stands out as one of the most iconic and sought-after pieces from the project. Signed and titled twice by the artist, and accompanied by its official Certificate of Pedigree from Gromit Unleashed, the sculpture was originally sold in the Gromit Unleashed Charity Auction on 3 October 2013, where it was acquired by the present owner.

At that event, the collection of Gromit sculptures — individually designed by leading artists, designers and celebrities such as Joanna Lumley, Jools Holland, Trevor Baylis, Pixar Animation Studios, and the Royal Mint — raised substantial funds for the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.

Now, over a decade later, Hound Dog represents a rare opportunity to acquire a true British pop culture treasure — a joyful meeting of two of Britain’s greatest creative forces: Sir Peter Blake and Aardman Animations.
