** The following lots (317 - 328) by Beatrix Potter, were originally in the possession of Katherine Blake Smallfield, who (together with her sister, Mildred) was an artist at Doulton's Lambeth studio ca. 1881 - 1912; as an acquaintance or friend of the author (possibly through her former governess, Florence Hammond) she may have suggested Doulton's as a likely manufacturer of the early (and unsuccessful) attempt to reproduce the animal characters as figurines. The binding and contents of the volumes have been checked against relevant authorities - Linder, Quinby, the Doris Frohnsdorff Sale Catalogue, and the V. & A. Collection Catalogue; condition in most cases is very good - please don't hesitate to contact the saleroom for further details
