Knights Hall, auction 5 July

Bellmans are delighted to announce that they have been instructed to handle the sale of the contents of Knights Hall, a beautiful 16th century house with later additions, in the village of Winkfield, near Ascot in Berkshire. The contents had been thoughtfully put together by a former owner of the house before being acquired by the vendor. Consisting largely of furniture, works of art and paintings, from the 17th and 18th centuries and in the 17th and 18th century style, there is a strong European influence, with many pieces being of Flemish, Italian and French origin.

The collection comes to a total of 361 lots, with highlights including: a number of 17th century table top cabinets such as lot 2310, a late 17th century Dutch ebony rosewood tortoiseshell veneered ivory strung and mounted table cabinet on stand, estimated at £5,000-8,000

and lot 2300, a late 17th century Flemish ebony cedar and tortoiseshell veneered table cabinet, estimated at £4,000-6,000.

Lot 2150, a beautiful pair of late 17th/early 18th century paintings of game by the Flemish artist Bernaert de Bridt, estimated at £5,000-8,000;

lot 2130, A late 17th century Antwerp ebony marriage casket at £3,000-5,000;

and lot 2035, a pair of 17th century Italian carved pine polychrome painted gesso and parcel gilt candlesticks, each in the form of a standing youth holding candle sconces aloft, at £2,000-3,000.

Julian Dineen of Bellmans says, “we are absolutely thrilled to have been instructed to handle the sale of the contents of Knights Hall. It has been a pleasure dealing with these wonderful pieces and I am very much looking forward to the auction in Winchester on the 5 July”.
