This May, Bellmans Auctioneers are offering for sale a collection of copper and pewter Art Nouveau wares, which will go under the hammer on Tuesday 17th May.
A particular highlight is lot 941, an Arts and Crafts copper box by John Pearson (illustrated), dating from circa 1900 and embossed with an Art Nouveau floral motif, which carries an auction estimate of £300-500. It reflects the philosophy of the Art Nouveau style, which stipulated that art should be a way of life; fine arts and applied arts were combined, with even utilitarian objects such as this little box being decorated with forms inspired by nature. The collection includes forty highly decorative, highly collectable lots, and with estimates ranging from £80 to £600, it means that homes with any budget can be furnished with a piece of historical style.
The entire auction is on view from Friday 13th May, and will be fully illustrated online from Tuesday 10th May. Online bidding is available via the-saleroom.com.
