Antiquities at Bellmans Auctioneers

Bronze LampThis October Bellmans Auctioneers, Wisborough Green, West Sussex is to auction a large collection of antiquities. The collection will be sold on 11thOctober from 10.30am. The sale includes an eclectic mix of items from Byzantine bronze lamps to an Etruscan terracotta votive foot.  The collection will be fully illustrated on our website and is open to view from Friday 4th October.

The collection has been privately consigned by a local gentleman. The items have been acquired over half a century through auctions, dealers and antiques fairs.

Sale highlights include a Byzantine bronze lamp. The piece has an octagonal nozzle, knopped lid and arching double foliate handle, with leaf shaped thumb spur, circa 5th-7th Century A.D. and is expected to realise between £500 - £700.


Lot 1705 is a 15th century knife, reputedly found on the Thames at Bull Wharf. The knife with single edged steel blade (17cm), shaped wooden handle and a gilt brass pommel and leather scabbard, measuring 26cm, estimate  £200- £400.

The sale also includes an Etruscan terracotta votive foot. The piece still holds some original paint, dated to the 5th- 4th Century B.C., estimated at £200 - £300 .
