06/07/2017On July 6th, the Bellmans Sussex auction of 20th century prints, pictures and textiles finished with a final sale total of over £40,000 (inc. premium and VAT). The ‘pop up’ small 150 lot sale was created at short notice following large consignments from a corporate art collection and a Surrey educational establishment. With a small gap in the sales calendar in July, the decision was taken to hold an extra auction - a decision warmly received both by people who came to view and bidders from Australia, America, Canada and the UK.

Auctioneer and ceramics specialist Simon Garner began by warning spectators that they would “likely never see such objects together as a pair again”, before they were sold to general applause in the enthralled saleroom.

19/11/2012The Bellmans 7th December Toy Sale will include a large single owner collection of dolls, belonging to Mrs Wendy Foster. Mrs Foster started collecting, repairing and selling dolls in 1966. Once her hobby completely filled her family home, opening a shop seemed the only option.
30/10/2012As a part of our bi-monthly Oriental Sale a locally consigned Chinese cinnabar lacquer circular box, dating to the late 18th century is to be auctioned with an estimate of £5000 - £7000. The cover is carved with figures on horseback engaged in fighting, with pine tree to the right, a bridge and mountains in the distance. The sides are carved with foliate scrolls, reserved with shaped panels, enclosing flower sprays against a diaper ground and black lacquer interior.

The first part of the collection was sold at Bonhams, London in December 2010. Albert Hartshorne born 1839, is recognized for his accomplished collection of English and European glassware and his famous work ‘Old English Glass’ published in 1897.
18/09/2012With the Olympic Games rapidly approaching, lot 1654; a bronze London 1948 Olympics participation medal, is a highlight for the August sale. This piece of sporting memorabilia depicts the view over legend in three line XIV Olympiad, London 1948 all displayed above the Olympic rings. The reverse displays the quadriga with triumph. The item is estimated to sell between £100 - £150, however the significant timing of this sale might lead to some interesting results.
