Posters; Advertising, Film and Travel

The early twentieth century was a great time for film, music, travel and exploration around the British Isles and Europe. The railways, travel companies, motor companies and tourist boards used this new medium to great decorative effect, advertising their services. The early film posters were often torn down after use and replaced with the next feature, meaning that examples from the 1920s and 1930s are now commanding incredible prices. Travel posters, particularly for resorts in the Alps, are extremely collectable, as are modern posters from the 1980s.

Posters are sold monthly at our Sussex Saleroom and bi-monthly at our Winchester Saleroom, as part of the Works of Art & Collectables section of our Interiors series of auctions. They are also sold as part of Bellmans Sussex's bi-annual specialist Leisure, Travel and Entertainment auctions.
