Captain Richard Alsager brought these Chinese Export pieces to his home in Surrey, around 1830.  They came into his possession through his voyages around the globe as a Commander in the Maritime Service, East India Company.  Nine of the fifteen voyages he undertook for the company were to China.

After his retirement from sailing the high seas, Alsager was twice elected M.P for East Surrey before his untimely death in 1841. He had no children.
