9 February - stellar results for Bellmans Belgrave square Auction

Bellmans achieved stellar results on Saturday 9 February for their single-owner auction of the contents of a mansion from Belgrave Square, London.  Hosted at Bellmans Sussex, the auction lasted over 8 ½ hours, was 100% sold and achieved a total in excess of £230,000**.  The auction, comprising over 600 lots, included designer furnishings and works of art, which had been commissioned for the house by the award winning interior designer Katharine Pooley.

Philip Belcher, Bellmans Senior Executive Director, commented ‘We were delighted to see such a fantastic response to the sale, which had been carefully curated by the team here in Sussex.  The auction room was packed with enthusiastic buyers and underbidders, mostly all new to Bellmans, and with nearly 40% sold to the online audience.’

Friday evening’s launch party, attended by over 300 guests, who had braved the rain and wind, were served from the novel Horse & Saddle bar, a converted trailer.  Loyal Bellmans clients mingled with many new clients, attracted by the novelty and diversity of the auction.  It gave buyers the opportunity to buy luxury chic at affordable prices.

Highlights included a gigantic chequer-inlaid dining table which reached over 480cm. long selling for £4,044.  With these proportions there’s only so many homes which can accommodate such a grand piece of furniture.

Lalique glassware also caused excitement in the salesroom with many of the pieces exceeding their sale estimates.  A particular mention goes to the Lalique crystal ‘Vibrations’ globular vase, which realised £1,453.  Also among the sale were many soft furnishings, candles and diffusers, which were all enthusiastically swept up with some realizing in excess of their original retail prices.

Bellmans looks forward to its next Luxury sale in the autumn, including furnishings, Lalique and jewellery.
