A golden oak and ebony strung cupboard with bookshelves over, by Peter Waals, circa 1930, the low cupboard with exposed dovetail and mortise joints and with a pair of doors with raised quarter sawn stepped panels within a frame set with macassar ebony moulded stringing and dished 'D' shape ebony handles enclosing a single shelf on stepped projecting chamfered feet, the detachable bookshelves with open work splatted back and shaped sides with conforming macassar ebony moulded stringing and chamfered projecting base, cupboard 60cm x 26cm x 60cm; bookshelves 54cm x 17.5cm x 69cm.

A similar cupboard with bookshelves over is illustrated in Ernest Gimson & The Cotswold Group of Craftsman by Annette Carruthers, 1978 Leicestershire Museums publication no. 14. page 51 plate F46.

Condition report

Some fading from sun damage.  Small water marks to upper section of cupboard doors where possibly some liquid has spattered against it at some point in it's history.  Some water marks to the top of the cupboard, including three ring stains from mugs.  Some water marks and light scratches to the bookshelves.  Scratches to bookshelves.  Half a ring mark visible on the top shelf and some small patches on the middle shelf.    In original condition throughout with no sign or repair or alteration.
