An enameled gold modern cut cornered rectangular hinge lidded box, the lid decorated with a landscape scene, with classical style ruins and trees, in a revival of an 18th century style, length 8.3cm, gross weight 82.8 gms, Illustrated
We emphasize that this box is offered as a modern piece, in a revival of an 18th century style. Interior has traces of old sticky labels and marks that are difficult to interpret. The side of the lip of the lid is marked twice E.T and also has the number 2524. The enamelled scene to the cover is blistering at the bottom left hand corner and to some of the edge at the top. This central scene appears to have been lacquered over or in some other way coated, possibly to disguise scratching. The outer white border to the lid has some scratching and chipping, but this does not appear to be over lacquered, the box sides are also possibly lacquered over and the gilt decoration to the edges of the dark blue enamel is poorly defined.
The underside is in a similar condition to the box sides.
