Bellmans Single Owner Collection from Amberley Castle – 22nd February 10am.

Amberley Castle is located in the West Sussex village of Amberley in the heart of the South Downs. In 1103 the site saw the construction of a timber framed hunting lodge, built by Bishop Luffa of Chichester.

In 1140, Bishop Seffridi replaced this with a stone manor house.

The 14th century saw the construction of the fortified castle, embellished with towers, great surrounding walls and a portcullis.

In 1893 the castle was sold to the 15th Duke of Norfolk, who resided at the castle during the development of Arundel Castle.

In 1989 the Castle underwent a change of use and was converted into a luxury hotel.

The single owner collection included within the Bellmans Three Day Antiques & Interiors sale comprises of suits of armour and weaponry, including; stonebows, crossbows and broadswords.

The sale highlight; lot 1684 is a 20th century steel suit of armour raised on an oak base, reaching the height of 200cm, with an estimate at £1500 - £2000.

The collection will be sold in the Works of Art and Collectables sale on Friday 22nd February, 10am. Lot numbers: 1684 – 1703.
